Bath Products Are NOT All Created Equal

No, all bath products are not created equal. Neither are the prices or benefits.

How Do They Compare?

Bath Bombs:

Bath Bombs are fun. They usually smell great and some have cool sparkles or toys that float around the bath with you. I have enjoyed many a bath with a bath bomb.

But, what do they do for you....really?

The main ingredients in bath bombs are usually Baking Soda, Citric Acid, Fragrance and Color. There are variations and added ingredients to some, but these are the core components. When placed in contact with water, the citric acid reacts with the baking soda to create that entertaining fizz.

When it comes to skin health, these get a fairly low grade. Baking soda, while soothing when in contact with irritated skin, can actually make your skin dryer if you don't rinse after soaking in it. Some high end manufacturers have added butters or oils to counter the effects, most of which are wasted (more on that later).

Bath Bombs are everywhere, from huge discount retailers to Farmers Markets and Specialty Boutiques. You can find what appear to be good quality Bath Bombs on Amazon for about $2.00 each, or up to $10.00 each from some of the more well known manufacturers.

All in all, I would say that the main benefit of Bath Bombs is that they are mood uplifting.  However, they don't do much beyond that. C-

Bath Butters and Oils:

Oils have been a part of bathing since forever. In ancient Rome, they would be rubbed on the body, mixed with dirt, then scraped off with a metal blade before entering a hot bath.

Many oils are absolutely fantastic for your skin. They can be very reasonably priced, the average being a couple dollars an ounce on Amazon. And, they are often enhanced with relaxing fragrances.

So, what's not to like? Have you ever heard the saying, "Goes together like oil and water"?

As mentioned about bath bombs with oils and butters, most of it is wasted. Oil floats on the surface of water. The majority of your body sits under it. So, there is only a very thin line of it coming into contact with your body at any given time. There is quite a bit more left on the sides of your drained tub than ever benefited your body.

Very high grade for skin benefits. The application of it drops it to a C.

Bubble Baths:

Okay. They do about diddly health wise. But, they are cool, timeless and inexpensive. Constant, solid B+

Bath Salts & Milks:

Both bath salts and bath milks saturate your bath water with all kinds of goodness. Prices range from very reasonable to a second mortgage on your house. You can find most in between those extremes.

However, not all of these are created equal either. Some products claiming to be milk baths have no milk in them. And, Epsom salts with synthetic fragrance aren't going to benefit you as much as Dead Sea salt with essential oils. So, check your products.

A real milk bath leaves your skin feeling soft and supple. The fat and protein in the milk provide this immediate benefit in your bathwater. Milk also helps exfoliate the skin for additional softness, and the lactic acid in milk helps clean and soften your skin. Milk hydrates the skin and helps prevent dryness.

In addition to the immediate softness of the skin, milk baths may provide deeper improvements to the skin's appearance. The lactic acid in milk may help remove dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth and may also encourage skin cell renewal. Milk baths may reduce some of the darkening that naturally occurs as your skin ages.

Bath Salts, especially Dead Sea and Himalayan, not only benefit your skin, but go even deeper.

Minerals found in Dead Sea Salt has shown a 40% reduction in the depth of the wrinkling. The minerals also moisturize, detoxify and soften the skin and enhance relaxation of the body. They help treat common skin disorders like acne, psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, dandruff, scabies, and seborrhea.

Arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, back pain, bursitis etc. can be effectively treated with Dead Sea salts.

And the list goes on. When blended with quality essential oils, these both get a solid A.
